Spring Cleaning Tips for Sellers

You may not have your home on the market now, but if you intend to sell within the next year or two there are things you can start working on now in order to get it ready. The goal is to keep your house ready to show at its best to any potential buyers, now or later.

Invest time in your landscaping as needed. Cultivate your grass so that it is magazine perfect on an ongoing basis. Whether you're listing spring, summer, fall or winter, ongoing maintenance is necessary to keep a good looking lawn. Keep trees and bushes trimmed so that growth is even, making them pleasing to the eye. Consider getting rid of trees that may have suffered irreparable damage from storms.

Wash and inspect your windows. With the right equipment you can do this yourself, or you could hire a cleaning service. Natural light is diminished by dust and dirt, and you want your buyers to have maximum light while looking inside and outside your house.

Are any of your floors in need of replacing? Don't procrastinate, instead do it now when it's needed instead of right before listing. It won't be as hard on your budget.

Bathrooms are always closely inspected by potential homebuyers so keep all fixtures spotless. If the bathtub is on the older side, consider having it refinished to give it a newer look without the cost of replacing it.

Spring is a good time to clean out closets or give away things that you can no longer use. A carefully arranged closet will give potential buyers a favorable impression of the homes occupants. Clean out and straighten up kitchen cabinets as well.

Keep the garage a neat, clean and functional place where it can be used to its fullest.

Now enjoy your showcase home until you decide to sell it to the next lucky occupant.
